Top 10 Best Ringtone Apps for Android

Ringtones. First they started out life as the functional noise that served to tell us we had an incoming call and then text messaging started to take and so we needed a second tone
. A shorter, more jangly tone that alerted us. However, ever since the advent of the polyphonic ringtone we’ve been able to have just about whatever sound we wanted on our devices. When the iPhone hit however, there was only iTunes and quite frankly, that’s just stupid. Here on Android, things are a lot different though and you can choose whatever the hell you like. There’s a lot of apps out there that vary from bring your own sound and handpicked themes. Let’s take a look at the Top 10 Ringtone Apps for Android!

10. Hip Hop Ringtones
With Android devices being as varied as they are, the chances are that the users are a very varied bunch as well. Great thing about Android is that there’s so much to choose from in the Play Store that you’re bound to find something you like. If you’re a fan of Hip Hop then this app might have a few tunes you’ll want to hear ringing.

9. Funny Ringtones
We all like a bit of humor and let’s face it, the smartphone has done wonders for jokes over the past few years. You can also have a lot of phone with your message tones if you know how. Some people are unnerved by certain stuff or perhaps you just want to make a colleague laugh when he gets a text or e-mail. Funny Ringtones will help you achieve any of these goals and also help you find a funny tone or two in the process!

8. Christmas Ringtones
Whether you like to acknowledge it or not, it’s getting close to that time of year again. Whilst I’m sure many of you will be looking forward to a new Nexus more than you are Christmas – perhaps that is your Christmas and I’m right there with you. However, some of us really go for Christmas and with this app you can have all the jingles in the world telling you of incoming texts and calls right up until it’s the 25th.

7. SMS Ringtones Top60
Often we’re happy with a regular ringtone – these are phones after all and so, what’s wrong with a phone sound? Where we like to variate more is our SMS tones, for a lot of us it’s taken over our lives and replaced voice calling. So, perhaps you like to have texts for different people or just mix it up a lot. I have a favorite I’ve had for years and with this app you might find your new favourite.

6. Popular Ringtones
A good mix of everything is sometimes all we need to see what we really want. If you’re the type that has an eclectic choice in music then chances are you’re never happy with your ringtone. Forever changing a ringtone is a nice way to customise a device. With Popular Ringtones you should be able to find something you like as there’s a whole host of genres in here from R&B to Dance. Knock yourselves out!

5. Scary Ringtones
Now, I’m not a fan of horror films at all – I’m not a scaredy cat or anything I just see no worth in them whatsoever. However, what is funny is changing a friend’s ringtone to something ominous that they’re not expecting. Just make sure they get a phone call whilst you’re there, you don’t want them having a heart attack in the middle of the night!

4. MP3 Ringtone Maker
We’ve amassed great music libraries over the years since the MP3 hit the scene. In the depths of our music libraries lie some groovy songs and I’m sure songs that will make some quality ringtones. Maybe it’s your favorite song from a club or something you had played at an event, as long as you have a copy on your phone then this will help you get the ringtone you’ve always wanted.

3. Ringo
You can have all the ringtones in the world but unless you only want to use one at a time then you’re going to need some help applying them. Of course, Android comes with the ability to set custom tones but it’s a slow, involved process. Ringo however, will let you do all this really easily. So, you can give your boss a horrid ringtone and your mom the most fun ringtone you could ever think of. Or something like that…

2. Ringtone Maker
Whilst I’m sure a lot of you will tell me that this belongs to RingDroid, I’ve moved on and so have app developers. This offering from Mobile17 brings all the features of RingDroid with some much-needed added flare and functionality. The UI is simple and easy to use, whilst retaining a good look and there’s a brilliant share functionality. Being able to send your friend a ringtone of that awesome song you can hardly remember from last night is always fun.

1. Zedge
No list would be complete without it and no list would be worthy if it wasn’t at the top. For a long time now Zedge has been the go to app for ringtones, wallpapers and SMS tones and it’s easy to see why. With user added content constantly updated you can find pretty much anything here. I use it to look up retro game tunes – because I’m that cool – my friends will use it for funny tones and I have strange friends that use it to look up the latest BlackBerry tones…bless him. Zedge has so much on offer and they keep the app updated regularly so, it fits in well with the latest version of Android and works brilliantly.
